Recording Freedom Road from Bony Mountain, NSW, ahead of September's festival

"I never considered myself country, more folk — but the industry decided for me."

What kicked it all off was writing about her first love, horses, while following the campdraft circuit through the 1980s. That subject matter put Norma squarely into the Australian country music scene, though her heart has always leaned folk.

She's spent her career telling the stories of stockmen, campdrafters and outback stations — songs like "The Outlaw and the Lady" and "The Campdrafter" drawn straight from the people who lived them. Now semi-retired, she splits her time between songwriting, Bony Mountain's wildlife corridors, and getting the new album ready for release.
